Instrumentation & Controls Intern

Help us build the next generation of heat-pump controls, right here in Montreal.

02 / WHAT WE'RE BUILDING
03 / THE ROLE

FirstLaw is developing a smart heat-pump system that recovers waste heat from air conditioning to produce free hot water. We're looking for a hands-on engineering intern to own the instrumentation and controls work on our next prototype.

This is a high-autonomy role: you'll take ownership of the lab work day-to-day, with regular check-ins and guidance from the founding team. If you like working independently and figuring things out, this is for you.

[$] $10,000 CAD stipend for the summer
04 / WHAT YOU'LL DO
  1. 01Design sensor arrays and data-acquisition systems for thermal testing of heat-pump prototypes
  2. 02Develop PLC / microcontroller logic for compressor staging, valve sequencing, and safety interlocks
  3. 03Instrument lab rigs with thermocouples, pressure transducers, and flow meters, then validate against simulation
  4. 04Contribute to control-algorithm tuning (PID, feedforward) to maximise COP across operating conditions
